Lake Geneva, Wisconsin Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

You don't need a passport for an escape to Lake Geneva ? provided you're thinking of the popular Wisconsin resort destination on Geneva Lake and not some city in Switzerland. An easy drive inland from Racine and Kenosha or up from Chicago, Illinois, it's partly location that keeps this lakeside haunt hopping. Central Lake Geneva is situated along the northeast shore of the lake, but beaches and other area attractions are within easy water taxi reach.

Visitors to the area will find certain amenities ? like local spas and shops ? open no matter the weather. Outdoor activities though, sensibly vary with the season. Summer sees the beaches padding the waters of Geneva Lake patronized again by sunbathers, the horizon heaving with the bob and tipple of boats on the water. Whether you're looking for speed, a peaceful paddle or an organized cruise round the lake, local operators can make sure you're set up and ready to rumble ? including getting you all the bait and tackle you need for a day of fishing (join locals in the know on Delavan Lake). Even would-be long distance walkers won't have to worry about a shortage of suitable trail ? there's a loop running the entire way around Geneva Lake for a grand total of 26 miles. If it's golfing that gets you all wound up, rest assured that there are enough greens here to last several days.

When winter settles a white mantle over the shores of Geneva Lake, visitors anchor in and brace for cold weather action, digging out skis and snowboards in preparation for downhill runs at The Mountain Top or taking on cross-country ski routes. With easy runs to go around, this is a great February get-away for the whole ski-friendly family.

Lake Geneva is 72 miles southeast of Madison, 76 miles from Chicago and 55 miles from Milwaukee.
